In 2020, Latvia's prison population (total) decreased by 9.1% compared to 2019, reaching 3,104.

Latvia ranks 21st out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 29.6% (from 4,409 in 2015).
