In 2014, Sweden's prison population (total) increased by 1.5% compared to 2013, reaching 5,807.

Sweden ranks 16th out of 26 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 20.3% (from 7,286 in 2009).
