Prison population (adults)

In 2017, Sweden's prison population (adults) increased by 0.8% compared to 2016, reaching 5,689.

Sweden ranks 16th out of 24 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 9.5% (from 6,284 in 2012).
