In 2022, Sweden's prison population (adults) increased by 8.0% compared to 2021, reaching 8,370.

Sweden ranks 14th out of 26 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 47.1% (from 5,689 in 2017).
