In 2021, Sweden's prison population (adults) increased by 6.5% compared to 2020, reaching 7,747.

Sweden ranks 14th out of 26 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 37.2% (from 5,645 in 2016).
