In 2021, Latvia's prison population (adults) increased by 2.5% compared to 2020, reaching 3,156.

Latvia ranks 20th out of 26 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 24.9% (from 4,200 in 2016).
