In 2002, Lithuania's passenger cars, by type of motor energy and size of engine increased by 4.2% compared to 2001, reaching 1,180,945.

Lithuania ranks 21st out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 33.9% (from 882,101 in 1997).
