In 2002, Malta's passenger cars, by type of motor energy and size of engine increased by 3.3% compared to 2001, reaching 201,900.

Malta ranks 27th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 9.9% (from 183,774 in 1997).
