In 2004, Bulgaria's passenger cars, by type of motor energy and size of engine increased by 5.6% compared to 2003, reaching 2,438,000.

Bulgaria ranks 14th out of 25 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 27.8% (from 1,908,000 in 1999).
