In 2005, Bulgaria's passenger cars, by type of motor energy and size of engine increased by 4.1% compared to 2004, reaching 2,538,000.

Bulgaria ranks 13th out of 25 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 27.3% (from 1,993,000 in 2000).
