In 2009, Bulgaria's passenger cars, by type of motor energy and size of engine increased by 5.7% compared to 2008, reaching 2,502,000.

Bulgaria ranks 15th out of 26 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 2.6% (from 2,438,000 in 2004).
