In 2009, Estonia's passenger cars, by type of motor energy and size of engine decreased by 1.1% compared to 2008, reaching 545,600.

Estonia ranks 23rd out of 26 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 15.8% (from 471,000 in 2004).
