In 1997, Hungary's passenger cars, by type of motor energy and size of engine increased by 1.4% compared to 1996, reaching 2,297,964.

Hungary ranks 13th out of 25 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 11.6% (from 2,058,334 in 1992).
