In 1997, Slovakia's passenger cars, by type of motor energy and size of engine increased by 7.3% compared to 1996, reaching 1,135,914.

Slovakia ranks 17th out of 25 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 19.2% (from 953,239 in 1992).
