In 1997, Latvia's passenger cars, by type of motor energy and size of engine increased by 13.7% compared to 1996, reaching 431,816.

Latvia ranks 22nd out of 25 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 23.4% (from 350,000 in 1992).
