In 1998, Latvia's passenger cars, by type of motor energy and size of engine increased by 11.8% compared to 1997, reaching 482,670.

Latvia ranks 22nd out of 26 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 31.3% (from 367,475 in 1993).
