In 2002, Latvia's passenger cars, by type of motor energy and size of engine increased by 5.6% compared to 2001, reaching 619,100.

Latvia ranks 23rd out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 43.4% (from 431,816 in 1997).
