In 2006, Malta's passenger cars, by type of motor energy and size of engine increased by 2.4% compared to 2005, reaching 217,924.

Malta ranks 26th out of 26 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 11.5% (from 195,400 in 2001).
