In 2021, Malta's students enrolled in tertiary education by education level, programme orientation, sex and field of education increased by 5.2% compared to 2020, reaching 18,336.

Malta accounts for 0.1% of the EU-27 total of 18,529,195.

Malta ranks 26th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 33.2% (from 13,764 in 2016).
