In 2021, Malta's median of the housing cost burden distribution by poverty status decreased by 4.1% compared to 2020, reaching 4.70.

Malta ranks 26th out of 26 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 2.2% (from 4.60 in 2016).
