In 2021, Malta's median of the housing cost burden distribution by degree of urbanisation increased by 4.1% compared to 2020, reaching 5.10.

Malta accounts for 33.8% of the EU-27 total of 15.1.

Malta ranks 26th out of 26 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 8.5% (from 4.70 in 2016).
