In 2002, Portugal's at-risk-of-poverty rate by poverty threshold, age and sex increased by 0.0% compared to 2001, reaching 20.0%.

Portugal ranks 1st out of 11 EU member states with reported data — in the top half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 9.1% (from 22.0% in 1997).
