In 2021, Portugal's persons participating in tourism for personal purposes increased by 9.3% compared to 2020, reaching 2,384,986.

Portugal ranks 14th out of 26 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 12.7% (from 2,730,658 in 2016).
