In 2024, the EU-27 figure for students enrolled in tertiary education by education level, programme orientation, sex and field of education was 19,065,264 .

That is a 1.3% rose versus 2023 (18,822,775).

Over the five years before that, the EU-27 aggregate moved 13.1% higher.

Across member states, Germany reported the highest value (3,272,087, 2024) and Luxembourg the lowest (8,364, 2024) — a ratio of 391.2× between the two ends of the range.
