In 1989, Finland's population on 1 january by age group and sex increased by 4.7% compared to 1988, reaching 131,930.

Finland ranks 15th out of 24 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 28.3% (from 102,810 in 1984).
