In 2021, Germany's persons at risk of poverty or social exclusion by age and sex increased by 2.9% compared to 2020, reaching 21.0%.

The figure is below the EU-27 average of 21.7%.

Germany ranks 11th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the top half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 6.1% (from 19.8% in 2016).
