In 1999, Hungary's passenger cars, by type of motor energy and size of engine increased by 1.7% compared to 1998, reaching 2,256,000.

Hungary ranks 14th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 3.5% (from 2,178,891 in 1994).
