Government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data

In 2023, Ireland's government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data decreased by 2.8% compared to 2022, reaching 41.8%.

The figure is below the EU-27 average of 80.5%.

Ireland ranks 21st out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 31.8% (from 61.3% in 2018).
