Population on 1 January by age and sex

In 1978, Ireland's population on 1 january by age and sex increased by 1.3% compared to 1977, reaching 1,642,700.

Ireland ranks 18th out of 24 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 7.8% (from 1,523,300 in 1973).
