In 2008, Latvia's passenger cars, by type of motor energy and size of engine increased by 3.1% compared to 2007, reaching 932,830.

Latvia ranks 21st out of 25 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 43.8% (from 648,900 in 2003).
