In 2018, Latvia's total researchers by sector of performance decreased by 0.9% compared to 2017, reaching 7,439.

Latvia ranks 17th out of 20 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 0.1% (from 7,448 in 2013).
