In 1979, Luxembourg's population on 1 january by age group and sex increased by 4.2% compared to 1978, reaching 7,894.

Luxembourg ranks 21st out of 22 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 21.5% (from 6,495 in 1974).
