In 2005, Portugal's at-risk-of-poverty rate by poverty threshold, age and sex decreased by 4.9% compared to 2004, reaching 19.4%.

Portugal ranks 6th out of 24 EU member states with reported data — in the top half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 7.6% (from 21.0% in 2000).
