In 2000, Portugal's at-risk-of-poverty rate by poverty threshold, age and sex increased by 0.0% compared to 1999, reaching 22.0%.

Portugal ranks 1st out of 21 EU member states with reported data — in the top half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 8.3% (from 24.0% in 1995).
