In 2020, Slovakia's total researchers by sector of performance increased by 1.8% compared to 2019, reaching 17,276.

Slovakia ranks 18th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 19.9% (from 14,406 in 2015).
