In 2002, Spain's at-risk-of-poverty rate by poverty threshold, age and sex increased by 27.3% compared to 2001, reaching 28.0%.

Spain ranks 1st out of 10 EU member states with reported data — in the top half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 75.0% (from 16.0% in 1997).
