In 1981, Sweden's population on 1 january by age group and sex increased by 3.5% compared to 1980, reaching 263,340.

Sweden ranks 7th out of 22 EU member states with reported data — in the top half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 17.3% (from 224,596 in 1976).
