Government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data

In 2008, Bulgaria's government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data decreased by 20.2% compared to 2007, reaching 13.0%.

The figure is below the EU-27 average of 65.1%.

Bulgaria ranks 25th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 70.0% (from 43.4% in 2003).
