Government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data

In 2023, Bulgaria's government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data increased by 1.8% compared to 2022, reaching 22.9%.

The figure is below the EU-27 average of 80.5%.

Bulgaria ranks 26th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 3.2% (from 22.2% in 2018).
