Government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data

In 2024, Bulgaria's government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data increased by 3.9% compared to 2023, reaching 23.8%.

The figure is below the EU-27 average of 80.7%.

Bulgaria ranks 26th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 18.4% (from 20.1% in 2019).
