Life expectancy by age and sex

In 1998, Bulgaria's life expectancy by age and sex increased by 0.9% compared to 1997, reaching 70.9.

Bulgaria ranks 23rd out of 25 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 0.4% (from 71.2 in 1993).
