Life expectancy by age and sex

In 2024, Bulgaria's life expectancy by age and sex increased by 0.3% compared to 2023, reaching 72.2.

The figure is below the EU-27 average of 78.9.

Bulgaria ranks 26th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 0.8% (from 71.6 in 2019).
