In 2024, Germany's students enrolled in tertiary education by education level, programme orientation, sex and field of education decreased by 1.9% compared to 2023, reaching 3,272,087.

Germany accounts for 17.2% of the EU-27 total of 19,065,264.

Germany ranks 1st out of 25 EU member states with reported data — in the top half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 0.7% (from 3,296,249 in 2019).
