In 1982, Ireland's population on 1 january by age group and sex increased by 0.6% compared to 1981, reaching 63,400.

Ireland ranks 18th out of 24 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 5.7% (from 60,000 in 1977).
