In 2006, Italy's at-risk-of-poverty rate by poverty threshold, age and sex decreased by 4.4% compared to 2005, reaching 21.7%.

Italy ranks 12th out of 25 EU member states with reported data — in the top half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 27.6% (from 17.0% in 2001).
