In 1981, Luxembourg's population on 1 january by age group and sex increased by 3.4% compared to 1980, reaching 8,259.

Luxembourg ranks 21st out of 22 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 18.1% (from 6,994 in 1976).
