Government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data

In 2022, Malta's government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data increased by 1.2% compared to 2021, reaching 50.3%.

The figure is below the EU-27 average of 82.4%.

Malta ranks 15th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 10.3% (from 45.6% in 2017).
