In 1985, Romania's fertility indicators increased by 2.2% compared to 1984, reaching 2.31.

Romania ranks 3rd out of 22 EU member states with reported data — in the top half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 4.9% (from 2.43 in 1980).
