Government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data

In 2021, Sweden's government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data decreased by 8.1% compared to 2020, reaching 37.2%.

The figure is below the EU-27 average of 86.7%.

Sweden ranks 24th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 13.9% (from 43.2% in 2016).
