Government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data

In 2023, Sweden's government deficit/surplus, debt and associated data decreased by 6.4% compared to 2022, reaching 32.2%.

The figure is below the EU-27 average of 80.5%.

Sweden ranks 24th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 19.9% (from 40.2% in 2018).
